Arsenal 1-1 Liverpool (Arsenal win 5-4 on penalties)
(Aubameyang 12’; Minamino 73’)
Following on from triumph in the 2019/20 FA Cup final, young Ainsley Maitland-Niles has added another impressive honour to his growing trophy cabinet with a historic victory over the reigning Premier League champions in the 2020 Community Shield.
Putting in a Man of the Match performance, Ainsley put in a solid defensive and offensive display to give his side the best chance of going toe-to-toe with Liverpool.
Starting strong, Arsenal took the lead early on in the game through an inspired finish from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
However, Liverpool added a late twist to the game when Takumi Minamino found the net in the 77th minute to level the score.
With neither side able to find the decisive goal, the game went penalties and it was Arsenal who emerged victorious.
Maitland-Niles was also selected as a penalty-taker and he converted convincingly, showing no signs of nerves.
