Coniah has been named in the recent England U17s squad this afternoon for fixtures against Ukraine and Russia in Spain next month.
The 16-year-old goalkeeper will travel to Marbella, with his first match against Ukraine on Thursday 6th February, until a clash with Russia on Saturday 8th February before facing Ukraine again, in the team’s final encounter, two days later.
Coniah has been a key part of the Three Lions recent success at U17s level. This included lifting the Syrenka Cup in Poland last September after making two penalty-shootout saves in the final against the tournament’s host nation.
Along with his achievements at international level, Coniah has been a standout performer at youth level for Reading’s U23s with the shot-stopper earning a thoroughly deserved call-up to the first-team’s FA Cup fourth-round clash at home to Cardiff earlier this month.
These three clashes will be a vital part of Coniah and his side’s preparation for the UEFA U17 Euro Elite Round qualifiers which will take place in March.
