Liverpool were crowned champions of England after Manchester City lost to Chelsea in a game City had to win to stop Liverpool securing the title.
In a high quality game with chances at both ends it was Chelsea who took the lead through Christain Pulisic after a mistake by Bernard Mendy gifted Pulisic possession then allowed the American to sprint clear on goal and slot past Ederson.
City hit back through a stunning free kick from the majestic De Bruyne which gave Kepa no chance. City were now in the ascendency and a magnificent counter attack ended with the ever influential Raheem Sterling hitting the post.
Chelsea then had an attempt brilliantly cleared off the line by Kyle Walker, before they struck the decisive goal. Fernandinho was adjudged to have handled Pulisic’s shot on the line and was subsequently dismissed and handed Cheslea the chance to take the lead from the spot.
Willian dispatched the spot kick and Chelsea held on for a much needed three points.
What does this mean?
As a result of failing to win City have relinquished their Premier league title to Liverpool.
Chelsea stay on track for qualification for the Champions League.
Chelsea head to Leicester City in a much anticipated FA Cup Quarter final tie.
Manchester City travel to Newcastle United in their FA Cup Quarter final tie.
