Liverpool 2-1 Genk
(Wijnaldum 14’, Oxlade-Chamberlain 53’ – Samatta 40’)
Alex continued his impressive run of form with his third goal in this season’s Champions League and a Man of the Match performance as Liverpool defeated Genk 2-1 at Anfield on Tuesday night.
With the match in the balance at 1-1 at half-time, Liverpool, and Alex in particular, came flying out of the blocks as the energetic midfielder coolly slotted the ball into the bottom right corner after a fantastic turn to create the chance.
The 26-year-old played 75 minutes of the vital matchday four clash, as Alex gained more minutes under his belt for the current campaign.
And as well as earning Liverpool another three points, Alex’s match-winning goals means that he’s scored four goals in his last four games for Liverpool, as many as in his previous 45 appearances for the Reds across all competitions.
What Does This Mean?
After Napoli’s 1-1 draw with RB Salzburg in Naples, Alex’s decisive winner means that Liverpool are now top of Group E with the Italian outfit a point behind in second place.
Liverpool return to Premier League action on Saturday in a top of the table clash at home to Manchester City on Sunday, kick-off at 4:30pm.
