Newcastle U23s 3-0 Fulham U23s
(Longelo 64’, Touré 80’, Fernández 82’)
Cody and Martell completed the full 90 minutes as the duo suffered a 1-0 defeat with Fulham’s Development Squad at the hands of Newcastle U23s on Friday afternoon.
Cody, who only recently returned to the side, was made to demonstrate his qualities at the back as the hosts controlled possession. Sadly, the Magpies broke Cody and his fellow defenders’ resistance midway through the second half after Rosaire Longelo’s strike.
The 21-year-old has often been the creative spark from a deeper position with four assists so far this season as teammate and forward Martell struggled for service.
Despite not getting in amongst the goals, Martell was an effective influence in the match and playing as a number 10, the former Chelsea starlet was unfortunate not to get an assist in the 3-0 loss at Darsley Park.
What Does This Mean?
Defeat to Newcastle, means the Cottagers have dropped to 10th behind their opponents although Cody and Martell still have a chance to earn promotion – being six points behind the play-off places in Premier League 2 Division Two.
Next up for Cody and Martell is a showdown at Craven Cottage as Stoke City travel to south-west London next Friday.
