Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 Middlesbrough
(Lo Celso 2’, Lamela 15’ – Saville 83’)
Marvin’s Middlesbrough succumbed to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Champions League runners-up Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Cup third-round stage.
After helping Boro to a replay tie at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after the 1-1 draw in Teeside, Marvin completed the entirety of the clash in north London, playing in his left-wing-back position.
Despite the second-tier side finding themselves 2-0 down with goals from Giovani Lo Celso and Erik Lamela, Marvin cajoled his teammates into getting themselves back in the contest with the 29-year-old adding plenty of width to the visitor’s game plan.
Boro deservedly found their goal through George Saville which sadly proved only to be a consolation for Marvin’s side. However, the Englishman can be proud of his performance against the favourites and was unfortunate not to get himself an assist with four well-executed corner deliveries.
Marvin will return to the capital on Friday night in the televised Championship encounter against Fulham at Craven Cottage with kick-off at 7:45pm.
