Manchester City 1-1 Shakhtar Donetsk
(Gündogan 56’ – Solomon 69’)
Raheem will be playing Champions League knockout football for the fifth season in a row as Manchester City advanced from the group stages with a 1-0 home win against Shakhtar Donetsk.
Raheem started the contest and despite the delicately poised scoreline, the Sports Personality of the Year nominee was as always involved in much of the home side’s attacking threat.
Having been in pole position in to qualify from their group whilst coming off the back of an intense match in the Premier League with Chelsea on Saturday, you could understand City taking their foot off the gas towards the end. Shakhtar eventually grabbed an equaliser with 20 minutes remaining, Manor Solomon cancelling out Ilkay Gündogan’s strike.
What Does This Mean?
With a game to spare away to Dinamo Zagreb, Raheem’s side have topped Group C, meaning City enter the round of 16 draw as one of the seeded teams.
A trip to Tyneside awaits next for Raheem in the Premier League as City face Newcastle in the lunchtime kick-off on Saturday.
