Newcastle 0 – 2 Manchester City
(De Bruyne 37’, Sterling 68’)
Newcastle United’s first FA Cup Quarter final in 14 years ended in defeat against Manchester City.
City were completely dominant against a Newcastle United side who were keen to frustrate their illustrious opponents and keep the game tight.
City had the majority of possession and created various chances throughout the match but took the lead from a Kevin DeBruyne spot kick after a shove by Fabian Schar on Gabriel Jesus.
Dwight Gayle missed Newcastle’s only chance of the game, blazing over from six yards when unmarked.
That miss was duly punished by the lively and tricky Raheem Sterling who jinked inside and struck a fantastic effort from distance that gave the Newcastle United keeper no chance. The Manchester City talisman continuing his impressive form and demonstrating his importance to the team.
Manchester City comfortable saw out the game to secure their passage into the next round.
